Gita Lorraine Freimuth

(January 2, 1926 - April 23, 2013)

 

Gita L. Freimuth, age 87, of Duluth, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Franciscan Health Center, Duluth.

 

Gita Lorraine Hart was born January 2, 1926, in Superior, Wisconsin, the daughter of Louis and Jennie (Kaner) Hart.  

 

She grew up in Superior and graduated from Superior Central High School in 1943.  She married Donald Freimuth on August 13, 1944 in Duluth.  She traveled with her husband who was in the Air Force during World WarII.  After the war, the couple returned to Duluth.   She began working at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Cytology Department.  She retired after 23 years as Head of the Department

 

Gita was a great homemaker and entertainer.  She enjoyed sewing, baking, and playing bridge.  She was a member of Temple Israel.  She was also Past President of the Duluth Women’s Club and the Lakeside School PTA.  Gita served on the Advisory Board of WDSE-TV.  While her children were growing up, she was active in Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Jay Zinkevcz, and sisters, Ada Gross and Seena LaVine.

 

Gita is survived by her husband, Donald of Duluth, son Dick (Kathryn) Freimuth of Maplewood, MN, daughters, Diane (Richard) Gould of Duluth and Louise Zinkevcz of Edina, MN.

 

Gita’s family would also like to thank her many caregivers at Edgewood Vista Memory Care and Franciscan Health Center as she made her long journey with Alzheimers.  The wonderful staff at the Fransciscan Health Center made her last year especially pleasant. 

 

Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Temple Israel, 1602 East Second Street, Duluth.  Burial at Temple Emanuel Cemetery, Duluth.  Memorials preferred to Temple Israel, Duluth Women’s Club, Franciscan Health Center or donor’s choice.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home (218) 727-3555.
